Caerlaverock Castle to Glasgow

Up early and headed straight to Caerlaverock Castle. So stunning, it was the first castle to be built in Scotland and the last one standing with a mote surrounding it. Just had a good look from the outside, and went for a drive about 5 minutes down the road to Castlewood Nature Reserve where some of the oldest trees stand over 200 years old. Very swamp like and mossy. So many beautiful yellow flowers on gauze bushes everywhere giving off a scent of coconut in the breeze. We came across the original Caerlaverock Castle ruins which was built in 1220 however was relocated in 1277 to where it still stands today.

We set off and drove through Castle Douglas, Cross Michael, Talnotry, Bargrennan and went for a walk somewhere in here and got VERY rained on. It really is the most amazing feeling sometimes you just welcome it in all its glory. Can’t remember the name of this place, something to do with Bruce’s Rock (will update!)

Headed up to Glasgow via A77 and stayed with some friends for the night. Had a lovely meal and a night cap of Scottish whisky. A toast to my Dad’s 65th Birthday!

Happy Birthday Daddio x
